DAoC can be freely downloaded, the client, from the official game sites website. Information on getting set up to play on the Gensis server can be found here:. Just download the game via the official download, patch the game via the official loader, download the gensis launcher, click the Options tab, then you can check to see if you have the appropriate game.dll file, if not, within the launcher you can achieve the appropriate file(s).
The community is rather small. There are members of the game that speak English, German, French, and other languages. Mainly English is spoken, rarely I will find someone who doesn't speak English. I only know some Japanese and speak English natively so uselessly I just don't communicate or google translate if needed. Basically, the population isn't that big, only around 300+ players can be found online during peak times from what I have seen personally. However, you can level. You can find groups.
The level 5-9 battlegrounds and 40-44 battlegrounds are the most popular and during peak hours it seems there is usually 1 full group at least in the Hibernia realm, which I play on. I wanted to get the word out about this server as I have had a great time and I wouldn't mind having great battlegrounds and even realm vs. Realm experiences which I think having a larger population is necessary for this, though you can have good RvR experience(s), they just seem to occur no where near as frequently as I would like to see/experience because of the (relative to this aspect of this game) low population. Anyways, hope to see some of you online. If I recall correctly, the playerbase started to drop drastically when the 'i50 scandal' was made public.
The GM's allowed a Mid guild to have 50's on Albion (which was very underpopped at the time) and gave them plat to get started there, since they had already invested so much time on Mid. It sounds nice in theory but up many other players (myself included) had already switched realms the normal way in the name of realm balance by deleting their 50's and creating characters on a new realm, seeing as at the time no one knew that this i50 thing was being offered to anyone. The devs later claimed it was a trial of a program they were planning to implement on a larger scale, but the playerbase collectively flipped their shit when they found out about it. Combine this with the frustration of a lot of players due to the shaky launch and you have the recipe for a mass exodus away from the server. It's a shame, because I do think the devs had good intentions and just made a really poor decision, and it really is a good server - I have 2 level 50's there and it was the most MMO fun I've had in years - but at this point I'm not sure it will ever make a comeback unless Uthgard 2.0 just doesn't ever happen. Too many people have sworn off the server completely and refuse to even try it out again due to bad feelings left over from the first month or two after launch, and for those who do want to keep playing there the pop is just too low and the community needed to make DAoC shine just isn't there anymore. Part of me still hopes that the freeshard community will get tired of waiting for Uthgard 2.0 without any updates from the devs there and will start coming back to Genesis.
They have done a great job with the server recently and have really gotten their shit together - it's quite stable now and a lot of the bugs that were present at launch have been fixed. They just need players and a larger community now. I would love to wake up one morning and see 700+ players on Genesis.
Alright, I wanted to share this with you guys. It is an easy way to make daoc look a bit more fresh and colourfull. I already got a confirmation from @ via PM that it is fine to use the too, but maybe he can make a quick statement in this thread too rq?!
So what does Reshade.me do? It uses shaders to increase the sharpness of your game, the colourfulness etc. This is an example I made (only watch it at your PC, doesnt look good on your phone^^) //edit: if you`re using MOJO pls check the end of this post So lets get to the important things, here is a how-to use the reshader.
Download it at 2. Start the exe and you`ll get this window press select game and navigate to your daoc folder.
Then select camelot.exe 3. After selecting a game you`ll get this window: it is important that you select Direct3D 9 - it wont work with the other options. Once you selected Direct3D 9 this window will pop up: Press OK/YES and another window will pop up: 5. Now unselect ALL!
And only activate/pick the following 4 option: NOTE: if you want to adjust your gamma settings too with a toggle key just check the next post under this one, I added a quick description on how to do it, in that case you need to select LiftGammaGain.fx too, so you add 5 shaders. Clarity.fx. Colourfulness.fx.
LumaSharpen.fx. Vibrance.fx once you press OK the installation is done 6. Now start your game. You`ll see that you get an overlay at the top of your daoc window.
It says that you can get to the options with Shift+F2 (you can change the key for it in the settings!) 7. Press shift+F2 and the window will look like this just press continue! Now it looks like this and you have to click on the + on the right side to create a profile. Just name it whatever you want and hit Enter. Once you clicked ENTER it should look like this: 8. Just check / activate all the 4 boxes and press continue (you can set single toggle keys for those effects or just one for all effects in the settings) 9.
Now you can adjust the attributes. I have only changed one thing, I changed colourfulness to 0.550 from 0.400 but that is up to you guys. You dont have to change anything. Just Press FINISH when you`re done. Now you can set a toggle key if you want to, just go to settings and add it THATS it! Important: if you feel like you dont like it or it doesnt work the way you want it to, just uninstall it, this is a quick how to. Okay so @hiddenlurikeen did some research for me, and it turns out that its mojo that doesnt work with reshader anymore, after a mojo update, it is however possible to get reshader to work again by going to mojo - settings - set daoc client options and the do a checkbox in ' enable directx apps which may interact badly with mojo' This is not supported by mojo, but the option is there, i just tried it, and it did infact load the reshader app again, i will try to test this further, as if theres any stability issues.
Im only using Reshader for its Gamma boost, so i couldnt say if the 'enhance' feature that boosts the gfx a bit will work with this option enabled. Oh I forgot to mention, this is an easy way to adjust your gamma settings too, so you dont need to use mojo or any other app that adjusts your whole PC instead of only your game. You just have to pick a 5th option when you`re installing the shaders. LiftGammaGain.fx I suggest only to change the value in the middle. I actually havent played around with the settings and I couldnt test it a night but I figured that 1.400-1.600 might be a good setting. And if you only want to use it a night, just add a toggle key just for that option!
TYVM for this @ So i played around with it a bit, really read the post before you install it, so you get the LiftGammaGain.fx installed the first time, if you want to play with the gamma, the interface isnt the most intuitive, and i had not gotten the gamma shader in my first setup, but i managed to delete my preset and make a new, would just have been easier with the correct shaders installed the first time hehe. Anyway, its VERY shiney with the settings done as in the first post, i will have to do a whole game session to see if its something for me, it certainly looks good, but if DAoC is suposed to look good im not entirely sure, i must say though, that the streams i have watched with this setting, have been very nice on the eye. Playing with it one self might be different tough, i will have to see. But i mean, even if i dont like these shiney settings, the gamma booster alone should be very good, as far as i can see, it only boosts the game, and not the monitor. Okay so @hiddenlurikeen did some research for me, and it turns out that its mojo that doesnt work with reshader anymore, after a mojo update, it is however possible to get reshader to work again by going to mojo - settings - set daoc client options and the do a checkbox in 'enable directx apps which may interact badly with mojo' This is not supported by mojo, but the option is there, i just tried it, and it did infact load the reshader app again, i will try to test this further, as if theres any stability issues. 5 minutes in and I like it already. Awesome instructions. My Benq was already pretty bright but this thing works wonders to make DAoC less drab.
I toned down the settings some. My settings: Colourfullness.fx 0.475 colourfullness. LiftGammaGain.fx 1.250 1.250 1.250 RGB Gamm -only. I hotkey'd this specifically for night, but so far I like it in the day too!
Vibrance.fx 0.100 Vibrance. Default was 0.150 but it was a little strong for me. Took it down a little.
Remember to flip to settings and change Usage Mode to 'performance mode' before leaving the menu. If you do so, you will have to toggle it back to 'Configuration Mode' for changes in the future. For me, these settings keep more of the traditional daoc washout feel. But everything is so much more sharp, clean, and ground/wall textures are noticeably more pronounced.
Also the text is far more legible for me this way. But its all personal taste in combination with your monitor settings/quality. I'm just so glad this exists and @ put the time in to walk us through it. Added this to the first post. Ty for letting us know! YW, thx for the original post, its a great program. Ive played a few evenings without any stability issues, but again, im only using the reshader gamma bost, not the enhance feature.
